Our last workshop was a birthday party.
Nine eleven-year-olds. Two hours to make felt flowers, and at the end, turn them into a small bouquet to take home.
They Were More Focused Than I Expected
I'll admit, I was a little worried before we started. Could eleven-year-olds really sit still for two hours?
But once they began, they were far more absorbed than I'd imagined. Attaching each petal, shaping the curves, smoothing the edges with careful fingers.
Not everyone worked in quite the same way, of course. Some stayed focused from start to finish. Others were occasionally pulled away by the excitement of the party. We helped wherever needed, working alongside them.
In the end, all nine finished their flowers.
The Last Moment
What I remember most is the very end.
We gathered each child's flowers and tied them into a small bouquet. When we added the ribbon and placed it in their hands, their faces lit up.
The flowers they had made had come together into something whole.
The Moms Loved It Even More
Honestly, the biggest reaction that day didn't come from the kids. It came from their moms.
Watching their children's flowers come together into real bouquets, they seemed to be the ones most surprised, and most delighted.
And they all said something similar — that this wasn't something you could do just anywhere.
There are plenty of activities for a birthday party. But making flowers out of wool felt isn't one you come across often. It was a first for the children, and a first for their moms too.

How the Workshop Works
Duration — About two hours
Age — Recommended for ages 10 and up (low-temperature glue guns are used)
Group size — 6 to 12 participants
Materials — Felt, wire, leaves, and all tools are provided. Nothing to bring.
What they make — We choose the flowers based on the age and size of the group, keeping the project simple enough for everyone to complete within two hours.
What they take home — Each child's flowers, tied together into a small bouquet.
We use low-temperature glue guns designed for use by children, and we're there to help throughout the workshop.
